If you have ever launched a company, you have probably gone through the process of choosing a logo. Entering into this process, the stakes seem immeasurably high. No pressure, but your logo is a visual representation of everything your company stands for. As Christina and I began the process of forming Edgility, we spent several months thinking about the unique values and traits we bring to our work and then several more months codifying these values and traits into a symbolic image – the owl. Here’s why we chose it:
Super-Hero Vision Abilities
Owls have an edge over other animals in that they can turn their heads up to 270 degrees, allowing them to see that which other birds may miss. To be great at Executive search, you have to have this vision and ability to reveal new insights that had been hidden—or unapparent—to others. You have to be able to predict the future and assess which leader can not only address a client’s current needs, but also seize future opportunities and meet potential challenges that the client may not even be aware of.
Owls can also control exactly how much light is let into each individual pupil, which is an ability uncommon among most other animals. They do this both to accommodate for shadows, as well as to provide a means for filtering and focusing until they have exactly what they’re looking for in sight. Edgility leverages a wide range of tools and systems, which act as our owl eyes, to first cast a wide net, and then filter down until we’ve isolated the best options.
Small = Agile
Owls seem much larger than they actually are based on the volume of their most important asset – their feathers. We are relentlessly committed to keeping our cost structure low but investing in high-value assets for our clients such as cutting-edge technologies and the best and brightest talent professionals to staff our projects. This allows us to have a national presence, offer our customers the individual care and attention they deserve without the overhead costs associated with some of our larger competitors.
A Symbol of Athena
As a female led and founded firm, it was important to us to find a symbol that evoked the deep wisdom and expertise Christina and I bring to the space. The owl is well known as being the symbol of Athena, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom who is admired for her courage and commitment to justice: traits both Christina and I try to embrace everyday in our work.
Creativity is Fun!
The Owl is a symbol we and many of our clients are already having fun with. Many have come up with cute “plays on words” related to the Owl which has been a fun way to share our playful and creative sides.
Here are a few ideas, please let us know if you think of more:
- Because we help you find “hoo” you need on your team
- Because we really give a “hoot” about our clients
- Because you’lll be saying “whoot – whoot” after you work with us
