In this role, Engel will be leading Harlem Grown as it continues to scale and serve the Harlem community. She will take on the Executive Director role, focusing on operational excellence, financial stability, and leveraging talent across the organization.
Nicole previously served as the Chief of Staff at Harlem Village Academies, a high-performing K-12 public charter school network. In this role, Nicole oversaw the annual budgeting process, working to maximize dollars, talent, and educational programming to deliver network-wide academic performance. In addition, she was responsible for developing and implementing operational systems that align with HVA’s educational vision across the network of six schools and approximately 2,000 students. During her tenure, Nicole also served as the Director of Education Data and Operations for Harlem Village Academies, where she was responsible for developing network-wide systems for collecting, analyzing, and activating internal data to drive academic results. Nicole began her career in education in the classroom, teaching kindergarten students in Harlem at a Democracy Prep school, as a Teach for America Corps Member. She received her BA in Urban Studies from the University of Pennsylvania and her MS in Childhood Education from Fordham University.
