New York State Director, Democrats for Education Reform (DFER)
Democrats for Education Reform is a national political organization that supports elected Democrats and candidates for office who seek to expand policies and practices that work for New York’s public school students, and confront those that do not.
In this role, Crisanta will serve as the chapter’s new director. Additionally, she will serve as director for its affiliate organization, Education Reform Now NY (ERN-NY). She will lead DFER’s New York chapter. Duran is responsible for advancing the DFER mission in the state.
Before moving to New York, Crisanta, served in the Colorado legislature for eight years. In this role, she held the distinction of being the first Latina Speaker of the House. A strong advocate for educational equity, Crisanta passed legislation to address funding equity, carried a bill to expand in-state tuition to undocumented students, and created workforce development pathways to ensure students and their families have access to economic security.
