Executive Director, Francophone Charter School of Oakland
Francophone Charter School of Oakland (FCSO) is an independently run public charter school in Oakland, CA with the mission of providing a dual immersion curriculum to a diverse community of students. The school’s goal is to develop bilingual and bi-literate global citizens who are open-minded and value intellectual curiosity, personal integrity, and creativity.
As the Executive Director, Kennedy Hilario is responsible for managing the financial, operations, and instruction of Francophone Charter School of Oakland. He will work to ensure that more students in the city of Oakland have access to a high-quality, dual-language immersion program. Kennedy comes to Francophone with significant experience leading growth in several charter school networks in California and Massachusetts and has assisted in the turnaround of district schools.
He has held senior leadership roles in charter schools in four urban cities in California (Inglewood, Lawndale, East Los Angeles, and San Fernando Valley) and two charter schools in Massachusetts. In Massachusetts, he helped grow a charter network from one to three schools and assisted in the management of the turnaround of a district school.
Kennedy has also taught 3rd through 6th grade at the private school that he and his wife managed prior to joining the charter movement.
Kennedy currently serves on the board of Environmental Charter Schools and has served on the board of Massachusetts Charter Public School Association.
Prior to working in education, Kennedy worked for 12 years in the private sector with Exxon/Mobil, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Monsanto. A lifelong learner, Kennedy has a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Florida, a B.S. in psychology from Biola University, an M.Ed. from Fielding Graduate University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Kennedy has lived in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, New York City, Miami, Houston, Chicago, Boston, Southern California, and currently resides in Berkeley, California, with his wife and children.
