Principal, Contra Costa School of Performing Arts 

Contra Costa School of Performing Arts is located in Walnut Creek, CA. The mission of CCSPA is to provide a distinguished, pre-professional experience in performing arts within a college and career preparatory setting. Additionally, they believe in fostering a culture of excellence with the core values of rigor, relevance, resilience, and relationships.

In this role, Dr. Robert C. Chalwell will oversee the implementation of CCSPA’s instructional and artistic programs. Also, Dr. Chalwell will find, retain, and develop high-quality faculty and staff, and ensure the student services and special education teams have the resources they need to be effective in supporting students. Lastly, he will ensure that all members of the school community feel a sense of respect and belonging.

Dr. Robert C. Chalwell, Ph.D. has a diverse background in K-12 Education, Higher Education, Public Sector Administration, Challenge Based Learning, and Development Research. He is a classically trained tenor and music program director. Additionally, Robert is an accomplished public speaker and trainer on a wide variety of individual, community, and organizational development topics. His expertise in Youth Development, Instructional Leadership, Inclusive Education, School Turnaround, Student Engagement, and the Performing Arts are high-level skills he brings to the role of CCSPA Principal. 

Further, he has trained and lectured on Vocal Pedagogy, Culturally Responsive Teaching, Equity in Education, Restorative Practices, Organizational Practice, Economic Development, US Government, State & Local Government, and International Relations. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Texas, a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership & Supervision from Canisius College, a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the University of Texas at Dallas, a Master’s Degree in Global Affairs from the University of Buckingham, a Master’s Degree in Voice from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Voice from Boston University.
